Dubrovnik attractions: what to see and do in spring

Why go?

During peak season, between July and August, Dubrovnik is over-run by tourists – hotel prices rocket and restaurants and beaches are packed. But the low season, from November until April, can be lovely.

For most people, the best months to go are from May to June or September to October – think sunny days with the sea warm enough to swim, and hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions open, but without the crowds.

Go Gallery-Hopping in Sarasota

Duck between the nondescript bayfront high-rises and into the 1939 tin-roofed Cypress Bed & Breakfast (from $259), an Old Floridastyle inn surrounded by oak, palm, and mango trees. The dcor reflects a scrapbooklike approach, with influences both classic (a Victorian writing desk, a decorative brass bed) and decidedly local (wicker beds, grass cloth wallpaper) on display. In the morning, enjoy mango-pecan muffins made with fruit harvested from the trees in the garden.

Find inner peace at Hotel Indigo (from $264), where calming haikus appear on everything from room keys to lobby walls to salt shakers.

What happens when you flush a toilet on a plane?

Written by: Brett Ackroyd on March 6, 2013.

Ahhh, airplane bathrooms. While we always wish they all looked like the lavs in Emirates first-class cabins, fully equipped with a shower , theyre usually a little more, well, cozy and humble.

Jo Nesbo’s Oslo, Norway: my kind of town

Why Oslo?

It’s my hometown and the setting for my novels. It has all the things that you associate with a capital city, such as art galleries, fine architecture and good restaurants. But at the same time, it has a village quality. I love the fact that I can cycle everywhere, even in winter, when I use tyres with spikes. I can get to the woods or crags in around 20 minutes and go rock-climbing.

Anything special I should pack?

The best time to visit is between April and November but you should still take boots, layers and long johns.

No Beard? No King! – Dutch getting Viral about King to be Willem-Alexander

Currently H.R.H Prince Willem Alexander of The Netherlands (left) is clean shaven. He will be the first King in over 100 years after his mother H.M. Queen Beatrix (right) will abdicate in favor of him on April 30, 2013. However according to a funny FacBook page Zonder Baard Geen Koning (i.e. No Beard? No King!) which started yesterday and collected some 20,000 likes in its first 24 hours, Willem-Alexander has still 90 days to grow a nice beard.
