Readers’ tips: The Greek Islands

This week’s winning tip

Jewel in the crown

The fertile isle of Naxos in the Cyclades has the café-lined harbour; the sparkling, sapphire sea; the door to Apollo’s Temple from where you can stand and feel like a Borrower; and hidden, peaceful beaches. But its jewel is concealed in the Cyclades highest peak – Mount Zeus.

Take a local bus (or drive) from Naxos town along the winding roads inland which pass olive groves, orchards and tiny villages en route to the village of Filoti. Le

Willem-Alexander now King of The Netherlands

Willem -Alexander now King of The Netherlands

By a simple signature from his mother, Queen Beatrix, under an abdication declaration, Willem-Alexander became King of the Netherlands today at approximately 10.07 AM Local time in the Amsterdam Royal Dam Palace. Experience Victorian grandeur at the Gibson Mansion Bed & Breakfast (from $125), where the 1903 home’s stained-glass windows, parquet floors, cast-iron fireplace, and oak staircase have all been kept in mint condition.

North Cornwall

Brass Balls – Arthur Frommer

Brass Balls Arthur Frommer

I post this in my What are you Thinking About? category. Why? Read the intro for an explanation. I mean I dont want to be disrespectful towards Mr Arthur Frommer. Not at all. It is the first thought when I learned today from the NY Times that he has bought back the publishing rights for the Frommers Travel guides from Google: The man must have Brass Balls! Mind you! The man is 83! He sold the brand eons ago (in 1977) to Simon Schuster who sold it to the ones who sold it to Google.
